Go-Chair. Used from medieval times to sit a child in, can be wheeled from room to room, note the hot brick that would have been used in winter to keep the child’s feet warm. this example is of a later date and is probably Chinese in origin. |
Little Buffer. These potty chairs were sold throughout the 20’s and 30’s and probably later, later examples were more likely to be painted in light colours, this example has no tray which could be bought as an additional extra. |
Far Left. Potty Chair. There is some age to this one, it appears to be home made, it would not be unusual in earlier times for the Father of a poorer family to make items for his children that they would otherwise not be able to afford. Left. A folding Cot. Thought to have been made or sold by Birmingham and Coventry, Cycle Coy. Ltd. c1870’s, unsure if it was intended as a ‘Travelling Cot, or simple a ‘space saver’. |

Below some more Nursery items, the ubiquitous ‘Nit Comb’ of course and on the bottom right a small (8”) Perambulator Brass Hot Water Bottle. |

Baby/Child’s Hip Bath. This Hip Bath was always intended to be on a stand as there is a brass tap at the base. Before it came to us it had been used as a garden planter. |
Mouse Trap. Though not a nursery item as such we felt that they were probably all part of nursery life, especially in a large country house. (The ‘mice are modern cat toys) Date unknown, though thought to be Victorian. |
Baby Walker. One of 3 baby walkers in the collection of unknown date. This style was in use during Victorian times right through to the 1930’s. |
